Is Digital Clutter the sneakiest of all clutter categories?

I think so!

We can see the clutter in our homes, the overstuffed wardrobe, the kitchen drawer that won't quite shut (even if we ignore it!)

But digital clutter is a whole different category, inboxes, cloud storage - even the storage on your device, it all fills up quickly and it's so easy just to buy another few GB of storage without really thinking about what that means.

Our digital lives "in the cloud" are actually all in solid-state Data Centres that use up electricity and water 24/7. They are miracles of modern technology for sure, but do we really need to store so much in the cloud?

How does clearing clutter save time?

It's similar to saving you time in your home.

That is to say, when you're not spending time looking for your digital files - they're exactly where you expect to find them, it saves you time, reduces stress and frustration. And as for saving money? Paying for extra storage all adds up over time, and from my experience less emails to scroll through, less tempting "buy it now while there's money off" emails saves you money too!

We've all done it. Signed up to an email to get 10% (or more!) off, and then started getting emails from that company.

And more often than not we stay on their mailing lists, whether it's through curiosity, or just don't really notice them hitting our inbox anymore!

It's easy to download a digital file: a bill, a course workbook, an image. And then these files can often sit forgotten in the downloads folder, just taking up space, until you can't download any more files, or your storage is full and your device won't run upgrades any more! That's when it's time to revisit your habits and declutter and organise your digital world.
